Intu-MedPet Digital Thermometer for Cats, Dogs, and Other Pets

With all these humans running through our home and our lives, it’s easy to see the concern in taking a loved one’s temperature.  After all, a healthy temperature is a great sign of health.  And a healthy human creates a healthy community. Today, we’re talking about the best oral and rectal pet thermometer we’ve found on the market.

But even with all these humans intervening joyfully in our lives, it’s too easy to overlook the fury little critters that bless our presence with their love and affection.  And since they provide us with great companionship, it’s best that we return the love and affection with care and concern when they’re not feeling well.

And the best way to ensure that they’re feeling well is with a digital pet thermometer.  This Intu-MedPet thermometer is an excellent tool to ensure that your pet is remaining happy and healthy.

There are 2 ways to take advantage of this thermometer.  The first is my inserting it orally.  An oral reading can be fairly reliable.  Because it’s inside the body of the pet, you can expect the results to offer a more accurate reading than a topical gauge.

And if you’re really adventurous, and if you really want the best and most accurate reading, then the probe thermometer in the animals rectum will be the best course of action.  A rectal reading is by far, the most accurate temperature method.  The rectal arena has the most consistent temperature, and that temperature is the closest you’ll get to the body’s core.  So although it may be a little discomforting to shove a probe up an animals asshole, know that you’re doing for the sake of your beloved pet.

The interface is easy to read, which is a nice perk knowing that you might be dealing with a frigidity animal.  Imagine this scinerio: you’re cat is moaning in agony, and you want to help it.  But it won’t sit still.  So you drastically reach for his neck, and hold him by the throat, and shove that thermometer in its mouth and wait 10 seconds.  This is why it’s nice to have a fact acting thermometer.

And I don’t know of many animals that can sit still for too long.  So the large interface, with large font is an excellent benefit that can increase your chances of getting an accurate reading.

And not only does it offer accurate readings that are easy to read, there’s an easy button to access that you can use to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius.  So whether you’re a bloody American, or a die-hard metric system abuser, then you can choose either unit of measurement to satisfy your bias tendancies.

And not only does the thermometer offer great results, it can get you those results in as little as 10 seconds.  This is really beneficial, because if your animals are anything like my kids, I often have to put them in a head lock to get their temperature, or even to get them to eat their food.  Regardless, at the end of the day, there really is no difference between a wild animal living in your home, and a squirmy child that refuses to eat and have his temperature taking when feeling ill.  Not that I’m speaking from experience…

And not only is it fairly easy to handle, it’s also easy to maneuver.  It takes 2 AAA batteries, which keeps the unit light, and mobile.  Which is very beneficial when dealing with a squirmy pet.

But it’s not all hunky dory, as there have been a few downsides expressed in the with this pet thermometer…

But although we’re hot to trot with the Celsius or Fahrenheit options, it’s not obvious how you can select one option over the other.  And that’s because the friggin’ thing doesn’t come with instructions.  But so be it, because they would probably be in Chinese.

But one of our inquisitive users has express that by holding down the power button, the user should be able to easily switch the unit of measurement to his or her desired position.  Now if only there was a way to prevent the user from having to travel all the way to the internet to figure out how to switch the unit of measurement?  (Thus the reasons for instructions)

And don’t be fooled by the picture.  Although it looks like the thermometer is getting a temperature reading from the puppy’s nose, some vets have express that getting nasal readings is highly inaccurate.  So if you’re making your purchase decision based on the assumption that you can shove this 8″ probe up the animals nose, then you might be in for a rude awakening when you get inaccurate results that are pretty much meaningless.

And in addition to the inaccuracy of the nasal, some users have expressed inaccurate readings from the ear.  Now, to be fair, I personally don’t think taking an animals temperature from the ear with a probe thermometer is the most ingenious idea.  Firstly, an animal’s ear is going to be covered in fur.  That fur acts as a insulation unit, which means that internal thermal dynamics have resistance.  Which means that the temperature and heat can’t easily flow from the animal, to the tip of the thermometer.

So not only is the animal’s ear very hairy, it’s also filled with wax and other contaminants that are more prevalent in an animal’s ear due to the oils flowing from the pores and hair in the animals ear.

So before we get too critical, and accept every negative review like it’s the holy grail, we need to take it with a grain of salt and understand that the animals are naturally going to have a more challenging area to get accurate readings from.

But that’s ok.  Because although our beloved pets may be a nuisance.  We love them.  And we love caring for them.  And having the best animal or pet thermometer for our beloved pet will help ensure that they remain healthy, and that their remain by our sides for a long time to come.
